As usual, Dave and Becky (seemed like mostly Becky) put out a tasty spread of deliciousness at the FedEx Distribution Hub in Laurel. Thanks again to them and all our hosts for opening up their homes to us.
April’s tournament felt like the fastest one since I started playing back in Jan 2007. By the time we hit the first break, just about half of the 19 players in the field were eliminated (BrianRoss- 42.1% as we know how much you enjoy the numbers). I am not sure what to attribute this to. I can share that for the better part of the first three rounds, paint was scarce at the table I was playing at. At multiple times several people demanded a count of the cards to make sure there weren’t any missing, but as the Official Temporary RPT Tournament Facilitator I decided this was a good time to assert my authority and denied these requests outright. Seriously though, I don’t think we saw an ace hit the board more than twice in the first 3 rounds – and only then landing on the River both times!
On to the results. Jim Wagner improved on another career statistic, joining Grover and Jeff Dixon in a 3-way tie for Most Beer Bitch Finishes (5). Jim flopped a straight and went all-in over Wally’s raise, but the board paired and Wally took it down with a full house.
Once the debates of “The Top 3 Professional Wrestling Finishing Moves Of All Time” subsided, the tables consolidated down to one and the usual spirited side game began. Meanwhile at the final table, it looked like an earless Voldy was going reconstitute to make a run at it by knocking Rob R and Glenn off the table. But then it slowly became the Tony/Trueman Show, who together pushed out the remaining players to battle it out heads up. Congrats to FedEx and Wally for their first RPU finishes of the year.
Tony and Trueman decided to split the RPUs and just play for the extra point. The tip of the hat this month goes to Trueman, who improved his career First Place Finishes to 4 – well done. Do note that it doesn’t appear that Tony needs the extra point anyway as he is storming his way toward RPT Player of the Year. He is currently in 1st with a whopping 23 point lead over 2nd place.
The year is still young and of course anything can happen. But you have to play to win, and you have to show up to play, and you have to reply to the evite to show up, and someone has to host for us to show up, and…well you get the idea. Hope to see you all next month.
for the record….it was the top 50 greatest Professional Wrestling finishing moves of all time & I still say the DDT is the best….I heart you Jake ‘the snake’ Roberts….long live Damien!
