Thanks to Michelle and Corey for hosting this month’s tournament. They have a great setup for it and the food was perfect. Who doesn’t like pizza and veggies?
21 people came out to play. Glenn Tana got his first taste of Beer Bitchdom. It is humiliating but Glenn executed his duties to perfection. Speaking of beer – thanks to the Duclaw guys for bringing their new beer “31” to the game. This Muchich-style Dunkel is going to be a hit. It was simply excellent.
The real story of the tournament was Alex Johnson. The kid plays a lot of types of hands betting many different amounts. He is an overall wildcard. Sure he caught some cards… but he made the game much more interesting. Alex knocked out a lot of players… enough to arn him the 7th spot in the all-time most deadliest tournaments by a player. Quite an accomplishment.
Perhaps my favorite hand was Alex’s all-in push with 10-2 suited… lovingly known as the Brunson. I pushed my measly bit of chips all-in as well with pocket K’s and Trueman pushed all in with A-9 suited. The flop hits with a pair of 5’s and a 9 of hearts. Trueman has the edge over Alex… until a 3 of hearts and then a K of hearts gives Alex a flush and me a full house. Wow. Here is the picture of the final hand:
The tournament came down to Charles Harris Sr, Mr. Tinker, and Voldemort. Voldemort had virtually nothing after the first color up and was casually saying how he would probably be out soon. As they say: “A chip and a chair…” Voldemort was able to beat Mr. Tinker heads up to take down the victory – his second of the year. This further enforces his claim to player of the year. As far as the final table, it is still very much in play for many of the active players. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the RPT event in September at Grover’s Poker Room.
